Twelve candidates were confirmed at
St. Thomas’s Church, Cascades, last evening by the Bishop of Tasmania (Dr. R Snowdon Hay). The candidates had been prepared, and were presented by Rev T. K. Pitt. There was a large congregation, and the choir of all Saints’ Church, with Miss M. Evershed at the organ, assisted with the musical part of the service. In the course of his address the Bishop referred to the need of all people who called themselves Christians standing together, and supporting their church.
After, the confirmation service, the Bishop dedicated in the church a carved blackwood credence table in memory of Mrs. E. Cracknell, who died earlier in the year, and who was a great supporter of St. Thomas’s for a lengthy period.
The Rev. T. K. Pitt later in the evening made a presentation of a handbag to Mr. E. Keats, churchwarden of St. Thomas’s, on behalf of the congregation, and Mrs. Keats was the recipient of a tea set. Mr. Pitt referred to Mr. Keats’s excellent service for St. Thomas’s, and Mr. Keats suitably responded.”
