NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN – THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE – PRESENTATION TO LADY BARRON

The members of the Tasmanian branch of the National Council of Women held a farewell reception for the Governor’s wife, Lady Barron and presented her with a bouquet.

Alice Dobson, presented Lady Barron with an illuminated address and said the National Council of Women would be exceedingly sorry to lose their patroness. The National Council is a grand institution, and did a great deal of good work. They organised women in every country, and when working together they were able to do a lot of really good work in the matter of laws for women and children.

Lady Barron, who was moved to tears, was enthusiastically applauded as she rose to reply.

The address presented to Lady Barron reads as follows

We the National council of Women and the societies of Tasmania, deem to express our extreme regret at the departure of His Excellency the Governor and yourself from our midst and at the same time offer our congratulations for the promotion of His Excellency to the Governorship of one of the largest states of the Commonwealth.
