“Ellen Nora Payne Woodcarver of Tasmania” by Russell Atkinson

One of Mrs. Payne’s most successful paintings was a copy she made of a picture called “A Quiet Surry Pool” which Sir James Agnew (Premier of Tasmania 1886-1887) owned. She presented her copy to Westbury Municipal Council where it was hung on a wall of the Council Chamber.

Investigations with the council have not been able to reveal the whereabouts of this painting.
